BLACK HILLS CORPORATION SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) award (amount of award varies) is available to an incoming freshman that graduated from Spearfish, Belle Fourche, Rapid City, Sturgis, Lead, Custer, Hot Springs, Edgemont, Hill City, South Dakota, Newcastle or Gillette, Wyoming High School, maintains a 2.75 GPA and shows financial need. GOLDIE CHAMISON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) four-year award of $500 per year is available to a graduating high school senior from a rural high school of less than 250 enrollment, who has maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA, and who will enroll as a full-time student at Black Hills State University. This scholarship will be awarded every four years beginning the fall semester 1990. MR. L.R. AND MRS. NELLIE PIKE CHIESMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) four-year award for $1000 per year is available to a high school graduate who has not previously attended a post-secondary institution. Application is made during the senior year of high school. To be eligible, a student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and must have been admitted to Black Hills State University. Preference will be given to students who rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school graduating class. ACADEMIC TRANSFER STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $350 award is available to an incoming transfer student to Black Hills State University who has completed a minimum of 58 semester hours at a post secondary institution with a minimum 3.0 GPA. MARC BOESEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $1000 award is available to a sophomore, junior, or senior undergraduate student who is enrolled at Black Hills State University. The student must demonstrate strong leadership qualities through participation in college groups and/or other college and community activities. He/she must be an academic achiever, preferably having a 3.0 GPA or above and must demonstrate good character. CLARKSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) three-year award for $2500 per year is available to a student entering his/her sophomore year at Black Hills State University. The scholarship is renewable without reapplying, provided the student maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA and satisfactory academic progress. CSA COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $400 award is available to a non-traditional student 23 years of age or older having a minimum 3.0 GPA. The applicant must have completed a minimum of 32 credit hours at Black Hills State University. HAROLD DEYOUNG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) award (the amount of award varies yearly) is available to a junior or senior who is enrolled as a full-time student at BHSU. The applicant must be a United States citizen, a Western South Dakota resident (preferably from Midland and/or Stanley, Jones, Jackson or Haakon county) and must have earned an over-all 2.75 GPA. Special consideration should be given to students in financial need. REGINA DONAHUE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $200 award is available to a sophomore, junior, or senior, who has a minimum 3.0 GPA. JOHN EDWARD HESS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - Two (2) $1000 awards are available to Native American students who are residents of a South Dakota reservation and have a minimum high school or college GPA of 2.0. The student must enroll for 16 credit hours each semester. Incoming freshman must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or principal. Continuing students must submit a letter of recommendation from their advisor. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. LORENA JONAS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $300 award is available to a non-traditional female student (24years of age or older), who is at junior status by fall semester, who evidences appropriate growth toward professional character, and who can demonstrate financial need. LURA CAMERY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) up to $500 award is available to sophomores, juniors, or seniors majoring in history, human services, political science, sociology, or social science. Funding is provided by the Black Hills State University Foundation. CARLSEN-JOLLEY FUNERAL HOME SCIENCE AND HEALTH SCHOLARSHIP - Two (2) awards are available ($300 each). One to an incoming freshman that graduated from Spearfish High School and one to an incoming freshman that graduated from Sturgis High school who is pursuing a degree in the science and/or health field and is enrolled as a full-time student (12 or more hours). Funding is provided by Carlsen-Jolley Funeral Home. CASE FRESHMEN SCHOLARSHIP - Two (2)up to $500 awards are given for the fall semester. They are available to entering freshmen history, human services, political science, sociology, or social science majors. BRYCE AND CLARA CHRISTENSEN SCHOLARSHIP – One (1) variable amount scholarship has been established for a sophomore, junior or senior majoring in English Education (1st choice) or English non-teaching (2nd choice). The recipient must be a full-time student at BHSU and maintain a 2.75 GPA. ANNETTE CHRISTENSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $250 award is available to a junior or senior majoring in music or theatre with a 2.5 minimum GPA. This scholarship is for a one-year period subject to review by the College of Arts & Humanities Scholarship Committee to determine if the recipient has maintained the required GPA. KIMBERLY CLARK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - Two (2) $150 awards are available to juniors or seniors majoring in fine arts, with preference given to students in visual arts. MCDONALD'S MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $300 award is available to a junior or senior student majoring in music, with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to an employee of McDonald's. E.C. MIKKELSEN SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) award is available to a student from western South Dakota who is majoring in math, business, education or computers and has a minimum 2.0 GPA. DAVID B. MILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $250 award to a non-traditional female majoring in history, preferably a student from South Dakota. MUSIC PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIP - The number of $100 to $400 awards
vary yearly. (The $400 awards are reserved for music majors.) They are
available to students actively involved in one or more of the
following groups: Concert Choir, Concert Band, Black Hills Singers,
Black Hills Gold, or Jazz Band. Auditions are held in March or April
and continue through the summer by special arrangement with the Music
Department. New freshmen applicants must perform live auditions or
send in an audition tape to the Music Department, must be in the top
40% of their graduating class, must have a strong music background in
high school, and must be recommended by their high school music

NELSON SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) award is available to a high school graduate who has not previously attended a post secondary institution. Application is made during the senior year of high school. To be eligible, a student must be majoring in biology, chemistry, physical science, environmental physical science or mathematics, be in the upper 10% of his/her class rank, attain a minimum ACT composite score of 28 or SAT of 1,260, must have completed at least three years of both mathematics and laboratory science, with a fourth year in one area, with all grades of B or higher. The Nelson Scholarship is worth full tuition and fees for 16 credit hours per semester, for WUE states or out-of-state recipients the WUE rate will be paid for tuition and fees. For the purpose of this scholarship, "fees" refer to the general activity fee, university support fee, parking fee, and one lab fee per semester. In addition the award provides for a meal plan (200 meals per semester) and a double occupancy room in the residence hall. This scholarship is for a total of 8 semesters and is renewable without reapplying, provided the student maintains required academic performance. available to performers on traditional band instruments. Recipients
must play in the university band and in the Northern Hills Community

RICHMOND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This is awarded annually to students who have completed their junior year of study in science or mathematics with a minimum 3.3 GPA. SEATON PUBLISHING/BLACK HILLS PIONEER SCHOLARSHIP – One (1) $250 scholarship combined with an internship has been established for a journalism student. The recipient must be a reporter and will do a summer internship at Seaton Publishing the summer prior to receiving the scholarship in the fall. FREEDA SUMMERS SCHROEDER SCHOLARSHIP – Two (2) $500 scholarships
have been established for traditional female students, one for an
English major and one for an elementary education major. Recipients
must have a minimum 3.2 GPA and minimum of 14 credit hours per
semester. Students must be SUNNYSIDE SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $300 award is available to a junior or senior majoring in English, speech, Spanish, or mass communication with a minimum 3.0 GPA. WARRING SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in visual arts. The student must be enrolled for the fall and spring semesters to receive the award. DONALD YOUNG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) up to $500 award is available to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in history, human services, political science, sociology, or social science. Eligible students must be enrolled in or plan to enroll in a major within the College of Business and Technology and must carry a full load (12 credit hours) for the fall semester. DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIPS - Up to 10, $1,000 Department of Business Scholarships are awarded annually, with half of the scholarships being awarded to incoming freshmen majoring in business and half to sophomores, juniors, or seniors with a 2.75 GPA or higher majoring in business. Students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester to be eligible for the scholarship, with $500 being awarded at the start of each semester. The scholarships are presented on behalf of the BHSU Foundation. ROLAND DOLLY LOYALTY SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $1,000 award is available to a junior or senior undergraduate with a GPA of 2.75 or better or a graduate student with a BHSU GPA of 3.0 or better. The student must be enrolled in at least 15 credit hours per semester to be eligible. Applicants must provide three (3) letters of recommendation and write a short essay on their interest in economic development and/or creation of quality job opportunities for the state of South Dakota or work out of state, but for the state of South Dakota. EVELYN ELLIOTT SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $1,000 award is available to a sophomore, junior, or senior undergraduate majoring in accounting, business administration, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, and marketing. Funding is provided by former students and colleagues of Ms. Elliot and the Black Hills State University Foundation. Eligible students must be enrolled in or plan to enroll in a major within the College of Business and Technology and must carry a full load (12 credit hours) for the fall semester. FIRST WESTERN BANK SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to an incoming freshman accounting, business administration, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, or marketing major. The recipient must be a graduate of Belle Fourche, Lead, Spearfish, or Sturgis high school. The award will be renewed each year up to three (3) years if the recipient maintains a 2.75 or better GPA and completes a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. MARY GIVOGRI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to a full-time (12 credit hours per semester) sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in tourism and hospitality management. The student must be a U.S. citizen, be a western South Dakota resident (preferably from Lead or Deadwood), and have earned an overall 2.75 or better GPA. Funding is provided by the Black Hills State University Foundation. FRANK L. MATTERN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $1,000 award is available to an incoming freshman majoring in accounting, business administration, business education, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, or marketing. Funding is provided by former students and colleagues of Mr. Mattern and the Black Hills State University Foundation. Eligible students must be enrolled in or plan to enroll in a major within the College of Business and Technology and must carry a full load (12 credit hours) per semester, with $500 of the scholarship awarded in the fall and $500, in the spring. MCDANIEL FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $1,000 award is available to an incoming freshman accounting, business administration, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, or marketing major. The recipient must be a South Dakota resident, preferably, but not necessarily, from Hughes, Sully, or Hyde county, must be enrolled in or plan to enroll in a major within the College of Business and Technology and must carry a full load (12 credit hours) per semester, with $500 of the scholarship awarded in the fall and $500, in the spring. The scholarship will continue through the sophomore year if the recipient maintains a 2.5 or better GPA with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. Funding is provided by James McDaniel. MCDONALD'S SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to a student majoring in accounting, business administration, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, or marketing. MONTANA-DAKOTA UTILITIES SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to an incoming student and a second $500 award is available to a sophomore, junior, or senior student majoring in accounting, business administration, business education, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, or marketing. Recipients must come from a community served by the company and must be enrolled in or plan to enroll in a major within the College of Business and Technology and must carry a full load (12 credit hours) per semester, with $250 of the scholarship awarded in the fall, and $250, in the spring. NELSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in accounting, business administration, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, or marketing. ELAINE AND HOWARD OWENS SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $1,000 award is awarded preferably to a nontraditional sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in business administration or marketing with an interest in retailing. Eligible students must be a major within the College of Business and Technology and must carry a full load (12 credit hours) per semester, with $500 awarded in the fall and $500, in the spring. MARK PETERSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to an incoming student majoring in business. The recipient must be a South Dakota resident and must have earned an overall 3.5 or higher high school GPA. The student must enroll as a full-time student at BHSU. RUSHMORE CHAPTER PROFESSIONAL SECRETARIES INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 scholarship is available to a full-time (12 credit hours per semester) female student majoring in Business Administration or an incoming female student with an ACT of 18 or better who plans to major in Business Administration at BHSU. The scholarship is sponsored by the Mt. Rushmore Chapter Professional Secretaries International. MICHAEL SCHLIMGEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in accounting, business administration, business education, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, or marketing. Funding is provided by the family of Michael Schlimgen and the Black Hills State University Foundation. Eligible students must carry a full load (12 credit hours) during the fall semester. SOUTH DAKOTA CAMPGROUND OWNERS ASSOCIATION OBED OLSON AND BETTE PARSELLS SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) award is available to a full-time (12 credit hours per semester) sophomore, junior, or senior undergraduate majoring in tourism and hospitality management who has an interest in the outdoor recreation industry and/or travel and tourism activities. Funding is provided by the South Dakota Campground Owners Association. SOUTH DAKOTA INNKEEPERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to a full-time (12 credit hours per semester) sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in tourism and hospitality management. Funding is provided by the South Dakota Innkeepers Association. YVONNE WEYRICH BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to a full-time (12 credit hours per semester) student who is of senior status at the time of the award and is majoring in business administration. DARLEEN YOUNG SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to a full-time (12 credit hours per semester) sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in administrative assistant or business education. GARY MOSER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) award (the amount of the award varies yearly) is available to a full-time student majoring in technology who has a minimum 2.75 GPA. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. WALT SCHEINOST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - A varied amount is awarded annually to a junior or senior majoring in technology. Funding is provided by the Black Hills State University Foundation. SOUTH DAKOTA TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION (SDTEA) SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $400 award is available to a junior majoring in technology with a minimum 3.0 GPA and who has been admitted to the Teacher Education Program at Black State University. Funding is provided by the South Dakota Technology Education Association. TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $300 award is available to a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in technology who has a minimum 3.0 GPA. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. COLLEGE OF EDUCATION MYRIAM ACKLEY SCHOLARSHIP- Three (3) $700 or one (1) $2100 award(s) are available to a secondary teaching major with a minimum 3.0 GPA, with a high priority of financial need, and who is a South Dakota resident from a rural or small town background. BRYCE AND CLARA CHRISTENSEN SCHOLARSHIP – One (1) variable amount scholarship has been established for a sophomore, junior or senior majoring in English Education (1st choice) or English non-teaching (2nd choice). The recipient must be a full-time student at BHSU and maintain a 2.75 GPA. COLLEGE OF EDUCATION ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS - Three (3) $500 awards are available to students who are majoring in elementary education, middle school education, special education, or library media, with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. COLLEGE OF EDUCATION DEPARTMENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS - The number of $500 awards vary yearly. One (1) award is given to a new freshman and one (1) or more award(s) to upperclassmen. They are available to students who are majoring in elementary education, middle school education, special education, or library media, who have a minimum 3.0 GPA. COLLEGE OF EDUCATION GRADUATE SUMMER RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS - Two (2) $500-$1,000 awards are available for graduate students admitted into a graduate students program pursuing a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction degree. These awards are offered to students who are pursuing a research project in teaching, curriculum development or instruction under the direction of their Committee Chairman. Applicants must provide a letter of intent and a description of the proposed research outlining the background, proposed methods, expected outcomes, and projected timelines. COLLEGE OF EDUCATION UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS - Two (2) $100-$500 awards are available for undergraduate students admitted into a teacher education program with a declared major in elementary, middle, or secondary school education. These awards are offered to students who wish to pursue research in teaching or learning under the direction of their advisor. Applicants must provide a letter of intent and a description of the proposed research outlining the background, proposed methods, expected outcomes, and projected timelines. WALTER HIGBEE AND DORCILE FOWLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - (Two separate scholarships) Each award is for $1000 and is available to a new freshman, majoring in elementary or special education with a minimum 3.0 GPA, minimum ACT of 22, full time enrollment and a South Dakota resident. Special consideration will be given for persons with disabilities and/or financial need. The top ten (10) finalists will be required to submit two (2) letters of recommendation from high school staff stressing character and leadership potential, and an essay. The essay topic is determined by the Fowler Family each year. The topics are as follows: Topics For Scholarship Essay Events, tragic and political, have brought the field of Education into sharp focus. State and local governments, national organizations, unions, parents and students cry out for a change. Suggested cures for ills, real or imagined, vary widely and there is much disagreement as to cause and solution. The degreed teacher is a professional and as such lives and performs to professional standards. One suggested solution to current problems is to pay teachers more so as to get better teachers and to reach that goal for teachers to unionize. Whether that move reflects professionalism is debatable. As a teacher of the future students, consider and discuss one of the following points:

majoring in education with a minimum 2.5 GPA and who is a BUD AND JOSEPHINE JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – One (1) $250 award is available for a full-time junior or senior, admitted into the College of Education with a cumulative 3.0 GPA. Recipient must not be eligible for financial aid. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. MARIE GIESE LOVELAND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - Two (2) awards are available to one junior (maximum 2 year award) and one senior (maximum 1 year award) who have been fully admitted into a teacher education program and are enrolled as full-time students at BHSU. The recipients must achieve and maintain a 3.5 GPA. You must submit 2 letters of recommendation, with one being from a field experience cooperating teacher and one from a university/college faculty member. The award (for in-state or out-of-state students) will cover at the South Dakota resident rate the cost of tuition and fees for 32 credit hours per academic year, plus a $2500 stipend for room and board. The junior award is renewable without reapplying, provided the student maintains a minimum 3.5 GPA and makes satisfactory academic progress. GLADYS HOLST MCFARLAND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in elementary, secondary or special education with a minimum 3.0 GPA. He/she must be a full time student, and show outstanding leadership ability. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. OLGA MEYERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1 ) $250 award is available to a junior or senior majoring in education. He or she must be a full-time student with a minimum 2.75 GPA. The applicant must be a South Dakota resident from Midland and/or Stanley, Jones, Jackson or Haakon County. Funding is provided by the family of Olga Meyers and the Black Hills State University Foundation. E.C. MIKKELSEN SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) award is available to a student from western South Dakota who is majoring in math, business, education or computers and has a minimum 2.0 GPA. CHARLOTTE MAYREE ROEBUCK O’NEILL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $250 award is available to a full-time female junior or senior, who is majoring in elementary or secondary teacher education with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. PHYSICAL EDUCATION MAJOR SCHOLARSHIP – This is awarded annually to a sophomore, junior or senior majoring in physical education who has a minimum 2.60 GPA, and is active in school or community activities. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. BETTY RICHEY SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $1000 award is available to a junior or senior majoring in elementary education. Student must be a West River/South Dakota resident. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. MARY SANDERS SCHOLARSHIPS - Two (2) $250 awards are available to elementary education majors with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. HATTIE MAE ROSE SAUBERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $250 award is available to a high-ranking sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in elementary education and has a minimum 3.0 GPA. FREEDA SUMMERS SCHROEDER SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to a junior, traditional female student majoring in elementary education with a 3.2 GPA. The student must show financial need and be from South Dakota. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. LOUISE SMOCK SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) award (the amount of award varies yearly) is available to a junior or senior student majoring in physical education. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. SPEARFISH LIONS SCHOLARSHIP -One (1) $500 award is available to a junior or senior with a major in special education and a minimum 3.0 GPA, who has completed his/her second year. The recipient is to be selected on the basis of scholastic excellence, need, and potential for contributing to special education. The recipient will be selected by the Spearfish Lions Club upon the recommendation of the College of Education. This scholarship is given in memory of past Lions. SPENCER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $250 award is available to a full-time student majoring in education with a 3.0 GPA. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. MARY STEWART MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This is awarded annually to senior women active in sports, dance, or recreation. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. WES AND GLADYS STORM SCHOLARSHIP – This award is for a freshman majoring in education with a minimum 2.0 GPA and 18 or better on the ACT test. Preference will be given to students from Rapid City, and if not available, a student from western South Dakota. Funding is provided through the Black Hills State University Foundation. MARGUERITE VIGNA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP- One (1) $250 award for a junior or senior majoring in elementary education who has a 3.5 GPA. Student must be preferably from western South Dakota. WELLNESS MANAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP- This scholarship is awarded annually to a sophomore, junior or senior majoring in wellness management who has a minimum 2.6 GPA and is involved in school, community or professional activities. The Lady Jackets may receive awards in volleyball, and/or basketball, cross country, and/or track. The men may receive awards in football, basketball, cross country, and/or track. Information and applications may be obtained by contacting: MILITARY SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIPS ARMY ROTC SCHOLARSHIP - Merit scholarships are awarded that cover tuition and fees, a book allowance each semester and a tax free grant of $100 per month during the school year, for the life of the scholarship. Application eligibility includes any male or female Black Hills State University student who is attending school full time, is maintaining a 2.5 or better cumulative GPA, has a 19 ACT and is medically and administratively qualified. SCHOLARSHIPS The following scholarships are awarded to Black Hills State University students from donors in the business and private sectors. CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - These were established in 1978 by the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation, a non-profit, cultural and educational, humanitarian project which represents all North American tribes. Awards are given to Black Hills State University Native American students in two categories: JONAS SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $1000 award
is available to Native American students of junior or senior status.
Preference is given to a student who has maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA. HATTERSCHIEDT FOUNDATION, INC. EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP - Four (4) $1000 awards are available to South Dakota residents that are graduating from a South Dakota high school. Students must show financial need and have applied for financial aid for the upcoming year. Applicant must be a full-time student, have been accepted for admission at BHSU and have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Final determination of the recipients will be made by the Hatterscheidt Foundation. Contact the Office of Financial Aid for the special application that is required. FLORENCE KRIEGER MATHEMATICS SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $500 award is available to an undergraduate student attending a South Dakota College/University and is majoring in mathematics and preparing to teach in a junior or senior high school, middle school or in a college or university. Applications are available by contacting: KEVIN WHIRLWIND HORSE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One student is selected each year to receive this $500 award in memory of a BHSU student who was killed in a 1984 automobile accident. Recipient is an American Indian sophomore with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. Award is presented at the annual Kevin Whirlwind Horse Memorial Run/Walk, which is held on campus each April. Deadline: April 10 RODEO SCHOLARSHIP - Two $300 scholarships are awarded annually to
two incoming students. Applicants can be either male or female and
must be an incoming freshman or transfer student who has not yet
completed 64 credit hours. Applicant must enroll fulltime (12 credits
or more) at Black Hills State University STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES SCHOLARSHIP – All students who participate in SSS are eligible to apply for the SSS Scholarship. Each year, a scholarship essay contest is held and one winner is chosen to receive the $500 award. The essay must describe how participating in the SSS program helped the student achieve his or her education goals. Application deadline: February 1 SOUTH DAKOTA BOARD OF REGENTS SCHOLARSHIPS ANNIS FOWLER BOARD OF REGENTS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - One (1) $1000 award is available to a South Dakota high school senior who will be an incoming freshman at NSU, USD, SDSU, BHSU or DSU. The applicant must be a full-time student who has indicated a major in elementary education with a high school GPA of at least 3.0. Priority will be given to elementary education majors who have demonstrated the ability to motivate others, handicapped students, and students who are supporting themselves financially. HAINES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - A varied number of recipients and amounts are awarded to a South Dakota resident.
